Love songs and dedications (as part of the lipstick traces series)

Love songs and dedications was performed at K- Salon it was a 2 hour durational performance where I kissed the wall repetitively while listening to songs on my ipod. I made a conscious decision not to have the music played on speakers and instead on an ipod to further the act of intimacy between myself and the action and so that the audience were to only stand back and be voyeurs of this repetitive act.
Before I performed this work I remembered the piece of Cate Consandines Which was shown as part of the Bird Girls exhibition at the VCA, I also managed to find on youtube the lecture she gave that was part of the seminar on the exhibition, it was quite interesting to watch again (there is even a part where they film the audience and I can recognise my sleeve and hand writing in my sketch book) I like what she says about “putting something on to take something off” but I see my work more about leaving a trace a physical mark of an emotional obsession, like a graph of reputation, obsession, loss, etc

Here is the video of Cate talking about her work:

Some info I found on lipstick (from wikipedia):

“Lipstick is known to have been invented in antiquity when semi-precious jewels were crushed and applied to the lips and occasionally around the eyes. Women in the ancient Indus Valley Civilization applied lipstick to their lips for face decoration. Ancient Egyptians extracted purplish-red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% iodine, and some bromine mannite, which resulted in serious illness. Cleopatra had her lipstick made from crushed carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base.
Ancient Egyptians painted their lips red and lined their eyes with khol. As long as there's humanity, there's vanity and makeup in some form or other. In ancient Japan, the geishas paint their faces white and their lips red. Red lips are a universal symbol of beauty.
In 1770, the British Parliament passed a law condemning lipstick, stating that "women found guilty of seducing men into matrimony by a cosmetic means could be tried for witchcraft."
